The Big Creek Greenway is primarily a 12-foot wide concrete path that meanders through the deciduous woods along Big Creek. The greenway offers an ideal setting for walking, jogging, inline rollerblading, and biking. Dirt mountain bike trails are located on the east side of the creek 2/5 mile south of Webb Bridge Road."

Three Lakes Close to North Atlanta

Lake Lanier - a reservoir in the northern portion of Georgia. The lake encompasses 38,000 acres. Located in Hall, Forsyth, Dawson, Gwinnett, and Lumpkin counties, it is a popular lake for boating and swimming. Many beautiful homes line the shoreline.

Allatoona Lake - is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir on the Etowah River in the northwestern part of the State of Georgia. Most of the north side of the lake remains protected from land development because of its isolated location, mostly blocked by the lake. Here you will find many boat ramps, marinas, and recreation areas.

Lake Acworth - a 260-acre artificial lake located southwest of the city of Acworth, Georgia. It includes a public beach and park.

We love fresh vegetables and produce! 

Check out these three local farmers' markets in the Alpharetta and Milton, Georgia area of N. Atlanta.

1. The Downtown Alpharetta Farmers Market is open on Saturdays from April - November (from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm) in the Alpharetta Town Green area at City Center in front of City Hall on North and South Broad Streets.

2. Moss Hill Farms has organically biodynamically grown local vegetables. Located off Freemanville Road in Milton, they offer a variety of ways to purchase products.

3. Milton Farmers Market is located in downtown Crabapple. They are open April - October every Saturday morning -- weather permitting -- in the City Hall plaza between Council Chambers and Community Place. Attendees can peruse and purchase fresh locally grown produce, special hand-made gifts, one-of-a-kind must-have items for their home, and much more.

#25 - Trees of Green

The state of Georgia has over 100 species of evergreen trees and the most popular tree in Georgia is actually the Southern Live Oak. The Live Oak can grow up to 30 feet high and has a lifespan of around 300 years. You will also find other popular trees including the Magnolia, Cedar, Pine, Holly, Hemlock, and Leyland Cypress. North Atlanta and all of Georgia provide shades of green year-round. Another reason we love North Atlanta!

The Nature Center, located on the Chattahoochee River, is a 127-acre family-friendly park. According to their website, their "mission is to connect people with nature. Explore metro Atlanta’s nature destination. Enjoy trails, exhibits, programs, and events on 127 acres of forest, wetland, and river habitat. An experience, unlike any other Atlanta attraction." Located in Roswell, Georgia (just 8 miles south of Alpharetta, the center is open 7 days a week. For more information click  HERE.

# 29 - Alpharetta Food Trucks

The Food Trucks in Alpharetta (located at Old Roswell Street, 37 Old Roswell) offers a variety of cuisine options from April through October. While dining on some unique and favorite foods, guests are entertained by live music and community businesses.  There is limited seating available on the street so it is recommended that attendees bring a blanket or chair and leave pets at home. # 30 - Downtown Alpharetta, Georgia

Downtown Alpharetta offers a place to dine, shop, listen to live music, and more. The area expands over 1.72 miles. Surrounding downtown are communities with townhomes, apartments, and single-family homes. Residents can enjoy a short walk into town where they can renew old friendships as well as make new ones. We encourage you to visit Downtown Alpharetta.

Located on 75 acres just to the west of downtown Cumming, Georgia, the Cumming City Center is made up of unique shops, one-of-a-kind dining opportunities, a community park, and regular entertainment. Roswell is located in the foothills of the Georgia Mountains, along the northern banks of the Chattahoochee River, and only 20 minutes north of Atlanta. Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre is a major performing arts facility in the Cobb County area of North Atlanta. The venue hosts Broadway shows, ballet, concerts, educational shows, family performances, opera, corporate meetings, and events. 

Their mission is " to operate as a world-class facility, creating diverse cultural, educational and entertainment experiences that will promote accessibility to the arts; foster community partnerships that unify the region in support of the arts; fulfill the highest expectations of patrons, performers, and employees; stimulate quality economic growth; and inspire individuals to continually increase their knowledge, patronage and financial support of the arts."

# 34 - Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park

According to the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, "Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is a 2,965 acre National Battlefield that preserves a Civil War battleground of the Atlanta Campaign. Opposing forces maneuvered and fought here from June 19, 1864, until July 2, 1864. Although most famous as a Civil War battlefield, Kennesaw Mountain has a much richer story." Learn more HERE.

Living in North Atlanta provides an opportunity to enjoy many fabulous wineries. The majority are located in the northern part of the state, and nearly all are within a two hour drive of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Each winery has their own winemaking techniques, and unique wines. Fall is one of the busiest times for the wineries. Nothing like enjoying some cool mountain air and sipping on your favorite wines. # 37 - Breweries in Alpharetta, Georgia

Currahee Brewing - 25 South Main Street - 770-696-2097. This is a Dog-friendly brewery. Their facility is for test brews and small batch creations and is located across from the city center on Main Street. Here you will find plenty of outdoor seating and a counter service delicious BBQ restaurant next door at Smokejack.

Jekyll Brewing - 2855 Marconi Drive, Suite 350 - 770-549-9635. This is a Dog-friendly brewery. Inspired by Jekyll Island the brewery is located in the Alpharetta City Center. This brewery has food, regular and seasonal brews and entertainment. They were Voted one Atlanta’s top 10 craft beer destinations by Atlanta.Eater.com.

Here are some of the favorite skating rinks in the North Atlanta area. 

1. The Cooler Alpharetta Family Skate Center offers public skating, ice hockey and figure skating. Here you will find camps, clinics and lessons. For those who love ice hockey, the Cooler provides lessons, a house league, a travel league, and an amateur league. The Cooler also offers beginning and competitive figure skaters a perfect training environment.

2. The Plaza Ice Skating Rink located in Avalon of Alpharetta, their Rockefeller-inspired ice skating rink is a family favorite during the holidays.  Guests will need to book ice skating reservations in advance. According to the Avalon website, "Avalon is a new experience in the timeless art of living well. 3. The Ice - located in Cumming, Georgia, "opened in August 2010 with the desire to bring ice sports to Forsyth County and help grow the love of figure skating and ice hockey to people of all ages. Thank you to our many customers, who have, and continue to, attend our public skate sessions, celebrate their birthday with us, and participate in our Figure Skating and Ice Hockey programs."

4. Center Ice Arena - located in Sandy Springs, Georgia, the rink offers public skating, a house league, clinics, classes, party opportunities, and an adult hockey clinic. 

5. Atlanta Ice Forum is located in Duluth, Georgia. According to their website, the rink "operates Georgia's finest two sheet ice skating facility. The ice surfaces are regulation NHL size and the facility boast a full service snack bar, a pro shop,  skate sharpening and repair service, skate rentals (figure and hockey skates), seating for spectators and locker rooms with showers. The Breakaway Grill restaurant"

6. Norcross Roller Hockey "in partnership with Gwinnett Parks and Recreation and Peachtree Booster Club, is a recreational and travel roller hockey program based at the
Mark Ogden Hockey Rink in Pinckneyville Park in Norcross, GA, offering hockey opportunities to those of ALL AGES!"

Enjoy culinary demonstrations, activities for all ages and entertainment to please every palate.Taste of Alpharetta also is dedicated to the many facets of the local food system, including local restaurants, growers and producers, educators, distributors, innovators, and food rescuers."

# 42 Fourth of July!

Celebrating the 4th with family and friends - There is so much to choose from when it comes to Fourth of July in North Atlanta. 

The day starts out with the country's largest road race. The Peachtree Road Race takes place along the course’s 10-kilometer route from Peachtree Road at Lenox Square Mall to Piedmont Park.  The race has been know to have over 150,000 spectators and 60,000 plus participants. You've got to see it to believe it!

North Atlanta continues the day with celebrations such as local city parades and cookouts. And of course there is no better way to end the day than with Fireworks displays. The area offers everything from small park fireworks to large displays such as the one you will find at the Centennial Olympic Park.

# 48 - Southeastern Railroad Museum

Located at 3595 Buford Hwy. in Duluth, Georgia, the Southeastern Railroad Museum, is one where children can explore, touch and climb.  It is known as Georgia’s Official Transportation History Museum. Most of the museum is outdoors and has over 90 different trains.  Experiences include exhibits, film and television productions, educational programs and activities, as well as photography.  Southeastern Railway Museum tickets are to be purchased on site except for certain special events and functions.
