Blessing Baskets for Local Families

Join us November 10th at Sid’s Pizza to share the spirit of Thanksgiving

A Community Effort Led by Those Who Care

The Blessing Basket Event is thoughtfully organized by The Mary Ellen Vanaken Team of Keller Williams North Atlanta in partnership with dedicated local school counselors. Together, they have identified families in our area who could use a little extra support this Thanksgiving. By combining their knowledge of the community with the generosity of local residents, they are making it possible for these families to enjoy a holiday filled with warmth, dignity, and hope.

The goal is simple yet powerful: to gift Blessing Baskets filled with Thanksgiving essentials to local families in need. Each basket is more than just food—it is a message that our community sees, supports, and cares for its neighbors, especially during a season that can be difficult for many.

Why Thanksgiving Is the Perfect Time to Give Back

Thanksgiving is traditionally a time for family, food, and gratitude. Around countless tables, people will pause to reflect on what they are thankful for—good health, steady work, friendships, and the simple joy of sharing a meal. Yet for some families, the financial strain of providing that special meal can overshadow the joy of the holiday.

By participating in the Blessing Basket Event, you help ensure that more families in Alpharetta can experience the comfort of a full table and the reassurance that their community stands behind them. It is a tangible way to live out the gratitude we feel and pass it forward to others who may be struggling this season.

What Goes in a Blessing Basket? A Helpful Shopping List

To make it easy for individuals, families, and groups to participate, organizers have created a suggested shopping list for each Blessing Basket. While items may vary slightly, a typical basket includes:

  • Boxed stuffing mix and instant mashed potatoes

  • Canned vegetables such as green beans and corn

  • Canned cranberry sauce and gravy

  • Boxed cornbread or dinner roll mix

  • Dessert mixes or non-perishable treats, like brownie or cookie mix

  • A Kroger store gift card to help purchase a turkey or fresh items - *see more details below on how to send a gift card via email to Mary Ellen Vanaken

You are welcome to add your own thoughtful touches as well—perhaps a handwritten note of encouragement, festive napkins, or a small, family-friendly activity. Every item you include adds to the sense of celebration for the receiving family.

A warm, inviting scene inside Sid’s Pizza in Alpharetta, featuring a group of diverse volunteers joyfully filling large woven baskets with Thanksgiving foods such as canned goods, fresh produce, and festive gift cards. The baskets are arranged on a rustic wooden table, surrounded by subtle autumn decorations like pumpkins and fall leaves. Soft natural light streams in through the windows, highlighting the cheerful atmosphere and community spirit. In the background, a Sid’s Pizza sign is visible, reinforcing the local setting. The image should feel authentic, heartwarming, and professional—perfect for the top of a community-focused blog post.

Each Blessing Basket becomes a complete Thanksgiving meal thanks to community generosity.

Two Simple Ways to Contribute: Shop or Send a Gift Card

Everyone can play a part in this effort, whether you love to shop or prefer the convenience of donating from home. There are two main ways to contribute:

  2. Donate a Kroger Gift Card: If you are short on time or prefer a simpler option, you can donate grocery store gift cards. Gift cards help cover the cost of turkeys and fresh ingredients that complete each family’s holiday meal.

A Thank-You from Sid’s Pizza & Wings: Gratitude Certificates

Sid’s Pizza & Wings is not only hosting the event but also saying “thank you” in a special way. Participants who bring a completed Blessing Basket or donate through the event will receive gratitude certificates for future visits to Sid’s Pizza & Wings. It is a heartfelt gesture of appreciation for your generosity—and a great reason to return with family or friends to enjoy a meal together after the holidays.

These certificates are a reminder that when we give, the blessings often come back to us in unexpected ways. Your kindness supports a local business, uplifts families, and strengthens the bonds that make Alpharetta such a special place to call home.

Your Participation Matters: Help Spread the Spirit of Giving

The success of the Blessing Basket Event depends on the generosity of our community. Whether you choose to fill an entire basket, contribute a single gift card, or team up with others to share the cost, your involvement makes a real and immediate difference. Each basket delivered is a direct reflection of neighbors caring for neighbors.

This holiday season, consider how you might turn your gratitude into action. Invite your children to help choose items at the store, encourage your workplace or faith group to sponsor several baskets, or share the event with friends who may be looking for a meaningful way to give back. Together, we can ensure that more families experience the warmth, comfort, and joy that Thanksgiving is meant to bring.
